LEVINE FAMILY FOUNDATION
We look to strengthen oceanic protection by supporting the creation of large and accurate datasets, coordinated global action and the transition to greater transparency. Our focus is on the unsustainable stressors on fish and other marine life. Oceanic life is fragile, and we will use our funding to help protect it. Whilst we appreciate that plastics and climate change play a huge role in marine destruction, our focus is elsewhere.
We have identified five key stressors that the foundation wishes to target:
Use of technology to improve enforcement of fishing policies;
Supporting communities to take ownership of their own marine protection;
Supporting protection of the high and deep seas;
Public education on by-catch and over-fishing through film, social media campaigns and other tools;
Supporting alternative livelihood/enterprise models for coastal communities;
Use of innovation and policy to reduce by-catch;
Using data and transparency to inform behaviour of financiers and consumers;
Closing the gap between science and policy to set quotas sustainably, both now and in a future world affected by warmer waters.
Replace wild catch for aquaculture with other foods;
